Jidovtseff, B, Harris, NK, Crielaard, J-M, and Cronin, JB. Using the load-velocity relationship for 1 RM prediction. J Strength Cond Res 24(x): 000-000, 2009-The purpose of this study was to investigate the ability of the load-velocity relationship to accurately predict a bench press 1 repetition maximum (1 RM). Data from 3 different bench press studies (n = 112) that incorporated both 1 RM assessment and submaximal load-velocity profiling were analyzed. Individual regression analysis was performed to determine the theoretical load at zero velocity (LD0). Data from each of the 3 studies were analyzed separately and also presented as overall group mean. Thereafter, correlation analysis provided quantification of the relationships between 1 RM and LD0. Practically perfect correlations (r = ~0.95) were observed in our samples, confirming the ability of the loadvelocity profile to accurately predict bench press 1 RM.

1rm Prediction and Load-velocity Relationship
INTRODUCTION Maximal strength is often estimated using the force-endurance relationship, where tables or formula are used to predict one repetition maximum (1RM) or other loads (e.g. 3RM loads). For some populations (for example the frail or very young) such a procedure may not be appropriate and the accuracy of these methods depends on several parameters such as the number of repetitions, type...
متن کاملUpper-body work capacity and 1RM prediction are unaltered by increasing muscular strength in college football players.
The purpose of this study was to assess changes in upper-body muscular strength and work capacity following off-season resistance training and the resultant effect on prediction of muscular strength (1 repetition maximum, or 1RM). National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II football players (n = 58) were divided into low-strength (LS, 1RM <275 lb, n = 23) and high-strength (HS, ...
متن کاملThe impact of load on lower body performance variables during the hang power clean.
This study examined the impact of load on lower body performance variables during the hang power clean. Fourteen men performed the hang power clean at loads of 30%, 45%, 65%, and 80% 1RM. Peak force, velocity, power, force at peak power, velocity at peak power, and rate of force development were compared at each load. The greatest peak force occurred at 80% 1RM. Peak force at 30% 1RM was statis...

This study compared physical characteristics (body height [BH], body mass [BM], body fat [BF], and fat free mass [FFM]), one repetition maximum bench press (1RM (BP)), jumping explosive power (VJ), handball throwing velocity, power-load relationship of the leg and arm extensor muscles, 5- and 15-m sprint running time, and running endurance in elite (n = 16; EF) and amateur (n = 15; AF) female h...
متن کاملReliability Analysis of Traditional and Ballistic Bench Press Exercises at Different Loads
The purpose of this study was to determine test-retest reliability for peak barbell velocity (Vpeak) during the bench press (BP) and bench press throw (BPT) exercises for loads corresponding to 20-70% of one-repetition maximum (1RM). Thirty physically active collegiate men conducted four evaluations after a preliminary BP 1RM determination (1RM·bw-1 = 1.02 ± 0.16 kg·kg-1). In counterbalanced or...
